Alaska
The last frontier in America.
The Iditarod Sled Dog Race is an annual celebration for Alaskans, affirming their tenacity and independence. Also, visit Musher Mike for a personal slant on mushing dogs. His team looks good and works strong.
To the Athabaskan people, Mount McKinley is Denali, meaning The Great One or The High One, as it towers far above the other peaks of the Alaska Range. It is truly a magnificent mountain. At 20,320 feet, Denali is under a perpetual blanket of snow and ice. These ice fields are the source of several major glaciers, some of which are more than ten miles long. The North Face of Mount McKinley is a memorable sight, especially when the peak is often hidden in clouds and an unubstructed view is a rarity. 81K.
