Rain is falling in the redwoods
and you are beside me.
Some days, the fog clings to the coast
and a gentle rain is born slowly
in the misty crowns of ancient trees.
Today is different.
The rain comes in waves
carried by the ocean winds.
It sweeps inland
over grassy headlands
and settles into tall forest.
The storm pulses in its intensity
as if remembering the rhythm
of the surf it touched
just moments ago.
I listen to the storm and I am nourished;
it is the sound of renewal, a gift of life, rain.
I listen to our togetherness and I am transformed;
it is the sound of renewal, a gift of love, grace.
Rain is falling in the redwoods
and you are beside me.
